Crowns and bridges in Schiedam: digitally designed, durable restoration
Is a tooth severely damaged or are you missing one or more teeth? A crown or bridge restores the shape and function of your teeth. At 3D Tandarts, we first examine your teeth, gums, and bite, and we design crowns and bridges digitally with an intraoral scan. This way you get a restoration that looks natural and fits well.

Crown or bridge?
- Crown: a cap that completely covers a weakened tooth or molar. We recommend a crown for a severely weakened tooth (large filling or fracture), after a root canal treatment, in case of severe wear or discoloration, or if the shape or position of a tooth needs to be improved.
- Bridge: replaces one or more missing teeth and rests on the adjacent teeth or, where suitable, on implants. A bridge restores chewing function and appearance and prevents the surrounding teeth from shifting or tilting.
For a bridge on the neighboring teeth, those teeth need to be ground down. An implant only replaces the missing tooth. The dentist will discuss both options with you.
Materials
- Zirconium: very strong, suitable for molars and bridges that need to withstand a lot of chewing force.
- Ceramic (e.max): very natural and translucent, ideal for visible teeth.
- Composite and high-quality plastic: for certain applications and for temporary crowns that need to last longer.
We choose the material based on the location in the mouth, the load, and your preferences, and discuss the options with you.
Crowns and bridges designed digitally, without impression material
For crowns and bridges, we make an intraoral scan instead of an impression. That is more comfortable, accurate, and makes the work with the dental laboratory easier. For visible teeth, a digital design (smile design) can help to see in advance what is possible.
When preparing the tooth, the gums can bleed. With our laser, we limit that, for a drier working area and a more precise scan.
How is the treatment proceeding?
- Examination and treatment plan: examination, X-rays if necessary, and explanation about the options, materials, costs, and the number of appointments.
- First appointment: preparation of the tooth, digital scan, and a temporary crown or bridge.
- Second appointment: fitting and permanently securing the crown or bridge.
- Check-up and aftercare: checking the bite, the contact points, and the appearance, with advice on cleaning around the crown or bridge.
The temporary crown protects the tooth, provides comfort when chewing and talking, and already shows the new shape.
What does a crown or bridge cost?
Crowns are available from €500 per tooth. The price depends on the material, the number of teeth, and the costs of the dental laboratory. For adults, crowns and bridges are only covered by supplementary dental insurance. You will receive a clear estimate in advance.
