What is All-on-X, a fixed full arch on implants?

All-on-X is the collective name for a treatment in which an entire dental arch in the upper or lower jaw is permanently restored on implants. It usually concerns:

  • Lower jaw: four implants (All-on-4)
  • Upper jaw: six implants (All-on-6)

A sturdy fixed bridge is attached to these implants. This way, you get a complete row of teeth again, without a removable denture. The number of implants and their position can vary, depending on the jawbone. Sometimes implants are placed at an angle to make the best use of the existing bone. The lower jaw usually requires fewer implants than the upper jaw because the bone there is often firmer.

Why plan All-on-X digitally?

An All-on-X treatment requires precise planning. We make a CBCT scan (3D X-ray) and an intraoral scan, and digitally plan the number and position of the implants as well as the design of the new teeth. This way, we look not only at the bone, but also at your bite, appearance, and how easy everything is to keep clean. When necessary, we use a drill guide to accurately execute the plan.

All-on-X or implant-retained denture?

  • Denture: removable, often fewer implants, easier to clean, usually lower cost.
  • All-on-X: fixed, feels more like natural teeth, requires careful cleaning around the implants, usually higher cost.

Which solution is suitable depends on your jawbone, wishes, budget, and how well you can maintain your teeth. The dentist will discuss both options with you.

Who is All-on-X suitable for?

All-on-X can be an option if you are missing or will be missing many or all teeth in one jaw, for example due to gum problems or a denture that no longer fits well. Not everyone is eligible. We assess the amount and quality of the jawbone, the gums, your general health, your oral hygiene, and whether you smoke. Sometimes another treatment is needed first, such as bone grafting or gum treatment.

How does an All-on-X treatment proceed?

  1. Intake and examination: your wishes, health, gums, and jawbone.
  2. Digital planning: CBCT scan, intraoral scan, and design of the treatment.
  3. Treatment plan: steps, schedule, costs, and alternatives are discussed in advance.
  4. Placement of the implants: under anesthesia. If necessary, remaining teeth will be removed first.
  5. Healing and final teeth: sometimes you first receive temporary fixed teeth. After that, the final bridge follows.
  6. Aftercare: regular check-ups and professional cleaning.

Maintenance of fixed teeth on implants

Even fixed teeth on implants must be cleaned carefully every day, especially around the implants. Regular check-ups and professional cleaning are necessary to prevent inflammation around the implants.

What does All-on-X cost?

All-on-X costs from €8,500 per jaw. The price depends on the number of implants, the material of the teeth, the preliminary examination, and any pre-treatments. During the consultation, you will receive a personal treatment plan with a clear estimate.

Frequently asked questions

All-on-X

How many implants are needed for All-on-X?

Usually four in the lower jaw (All-on-4) and six in the upper jaw (All-on-6). The exact number and position depend on the jawbone and are determined per person.

What is the difference between All-on-4 and All-on-6?

The principle is the same: a complete dental arch fixed on implants. With All-on-4, there are four implants; with All-on-6, six. More implants are often needed in the upper jaw than in the lower jaw.

What is the difference with a snap-in denture?

A snap-in denture is removable and clicks onto implants. An All-on-X dental arch is fixed and you do not remove it yourself.

For whom is All-on-X an option?

If you are missing or will be missing many or all teeth in a jaw. Whether it suits you is determined by the dentist after examination.

Is All-on-X covered?

Fixed teeth on implants are usually not covered by the basic insurance. We discuss the costs and what you can expect in advance.

How long does the treatment take?

That depends on the situation. The dentist gives an estimate of the steps and the duration after the examination.
